As Acanfora fought in the early 1970's to be an earth science teacher in the public schools of Pennsylvania and Maryland as an openly gay young man, it was his family's unwaivering love and support that gave him the strength and courage and moral compass to seek greater understanding of - and fight for justice for himself, for other gay teachers and for all gays and lesbians. His parents stood by his side and spoke publicly in support of their gay son's rights and encouraged parents of gay children everywhere to support their gay sons and daughters.
